Aluminium phosphide fumigants release phosphine gas when they come into contact with moisture in the air. They are used to protect stored grain, pulses and other commodities in warehouses, silos and stacks under gas-tight covers, and for other uses only where the product label permits.
These are restricted-use products. Fumigation must be carried out only by trained, licensed operators, strictly as per the label and leaflet approved by the CIB&RC, with the area sealed, marked and properly aerated before re-entry.
